## **Layer Masks**

The most common feature to use in Photoshop is the layer mask. Use of a layer mask enables you to alter an object on its own layer without affecting or obscuring any other parts of the image. You can still edit the layers below it. For example, you can add a new layer, copy and paste an object from another layer, and manipulate only the object on the new layer while the object on the original layer remains unchanged. This feature can be very useful in designing elements within your photos that are unique and different from the rest of the subject.

How to edit an image with Photoshop Elements

First, you’ll need to open an image in Photoshop Elements. Then, you’ll edit the image like you would any other image.

Open the file in Photoshop Elements. If the file is located on a hard drive, select File⇒Open. Select the file or folder to open, and then click Open. For a file on a CD, DVD, or media such as a thumb drive, select the drive from the Devices Pane and click Open. In the resulting image window, double-click the first image in the list to open it. Click the arrow next to the Layers button on the top toolbar to switch to the Layers palette. Click the arrow beside the Background layer to select it. Click the foreground and background colors swatch and choose a new color. Click Image ➤ Adjustments➤ Curves or click Edit ➤ Adjustments ➤ Curves to open the Curves palette. Click to drag the left or right mitered handles to adjust the curve. Click to drag the left or right mitered handles to adjust the curve. Click the Curve item in the Adjustments palette to close the curves palette. Double-click the background in the Layers palette and choose a different color. By default, Photoshop Elements colors your image while you are working, but you can change this by clicking the eyedropper tool and selecting a color on the image. Click the eyedropper tool and, with it, click a spot on the image that you’d like to change. In the Color Picker dialog box, select a new color. Click the Select button. Click the foreground and background colors swatch and choose a different color. Click Image ➤ Adjustments ➤ Hue/Saturation. The Hue/Saturation dialog box opens. From the Color pop-up menu, select the color you want to apply. Click OK. It is likely that your image will appear a slightly different color now. RALEIGH, NC (CN) — Prosecutors failed to disclose a witness whom they may have made promises to in a potentially false arrest case against a man the government says is an alleged member of the online white supremacist group Atomwaffen Division, U.S. District Court Judge Robert F. Conrad claims in his December 29 discovery order.

The order, filed Thursday in U.S. District Court for the Middle District of North Carolina, finds that the prosecutors had promised key witness, a defendant in a criminal case, to drop felony charges against the man.

Conrad, however, says the prosecutor’s statements that they would drop the case, or at least drop some of the charges, were not binding, and that they must disclose the evidence and statements.

Conrad argues that the FBI arrested the man during a traffic stop in Washington state in April 2016, after Washington state troopers had identified the driver as a suspect in an earlier incident involving criminal activity and assault.

While the driver had outstanding warrants for traffic violations, he was also charged with misdemeanor assault after he and two of his passengers allegedly flashed a gun at a young woman and threatened her.

According to the charging documents, the woman reported that the men showed her a gun, which was “indicated by a two inch black cylinder, wrapped in black cloth,” at a gate to a federal firearms storage facility.

The next day, a grand jury in the U.S. District Court in Seattle indicted the man, whom the government says is an active member of the hate group that calls itself the “radicalization network for future generations,” also known as the Atomwaffen Division.

He faces charges of being a felon in possession of a firearm and possession of a firearm in furtherance of a crime of violence.

The Washington state prosecutor did not charge him with the original misdemeanor assault.

One of the man’s passengers was charged with felony possession of a firearm, and others were charged with felonies related to marijuana trafficking.

All were acquitted at trial, including the man who is the subject of the discovery order.

A federal jury in October 2016 found that the man was not guilty of being a felon in possession, and the federal prosecutor decided against retrying him for that charge.

The Magic Wand tool lets you create a selection from one specific color, regardless of its position in an image. You can also combine this with the Auto-Select tool to get a great selection every time.
The Paths tool is like a grid for an image. You can use it to create a precise selection, or to do things such as draw straight lines and ellipses.
The Pen tool allows you to create a line, a curve, or some other path. You can combine it with the Stroke and Dashed options to create very specific effects.
The Retouch tool allows you to change the area around a selected area of an image. Use it to remove unwanted blemishes and imperfections from your photo.
The Ripple tool changes the colors of a specific area. The colors of the image change progressively as you use this tool.
The Script tool lets you write or copy text and apply it to the desired area of your image.
The Spot Healing Brush tool allows you to remove small portions of an image, such as a splotch of ink. It works by copying pixels from another area of the image.
The Straighten tool allows you to correct the distortion in a photo caused by a camera’s lens.
The Spot Healing Brush tool allows you to clear up small spots on your image. The best way to use this tool is to select a single color from a section of your image, then click on the white or black area surrounding it.
