Week 51 in review: Heads turn to 2023 – Galaxy S23, Pixel 8
It’s the penultimate week of 2022 and we’re just about ready for 2023 and the phones it will bring. But before we write off 2022, let’s take a look at the top stories of the past seven days.
ZTE announced the Nubia Z50 with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, and the 64MP IMX787 35mm main camera that we loved so much on the Axon 40 Ultra. The Nubia Z50 is China-exclusive for now and starts at CNY 2,999 for the base 8/128GB trim.
The OnePlus 11, which will arrive on February 7, will have a 6.7-inch QHD+ AMOLED with a 120Hz refresh rate, a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset, 12GB or 16GB of RAM, a 4,870mAh battery, and a triple camera comprising 50MP wide, 48MP ultrawide, and 32MP telephoto units. There will be a 16MP selfie on the front.
We got another look at the Galaxy S23 series’ official accessories. The Galaxy S23, S23+, and S23 Ultra will launch on February 1 and will have a choice of accessories – leather cases, smart view covers, silicone cases, etc. The consensus is that the Galaxy S23 Ultra will be available in four colors at launch – Cream, Green, Lavender, and Phantom Black.
Google’s Pixel roadmap will include the Pixel Tablet, which is expected to launch soon, as well as the Pixel 8 series in 2023 with support for staggered HDR – the ability to capture different exposures simultaneously with the same pixels. Since the current ISOCELL GN1 sensor inside the Pixel 7 and 7 Pro doesn’t support staggered HDR, we expect the Pixel 8 phones to have an ISOCELL GN2. The leaked roadmap continues to say that the Pixel Fold is coming at Google I/O in April or May.
See you next week!
